Thabo Moloisane is edging closer to a high-profile move to Kaizer Chiefs, with the defender understood to have declined a contract extension at Stellenbosch FC.
Sources indicate that Moloisane has made it clear he will not be renewing his deal, which is set to expire at the end of the season. This stance leaves him free to negotiate and sign a pre-contract with a club of his choice, placing Chiefs firmly in the driving seat for his signature.
Stellenbosch have reportedly come to terms with the likelihood of losing one of their key defensive figures, who has been instrumental in the club’s steady rise in recent campaigns. The Cape Winelands outfit are now bracing for his departure, rather than engaging in a prolonged contract standoff.
The club’s CEO, Rob Benadie, recently acknowledged the growing challenge of retaining top talent amid interest from bigger clubs.

WHAT ROB BENADIE SAID ABOUT MOLOISANE
“I’m going to be totally honest and transparent with you. Thabo Moloisane, we would like to keep him.
“We’ve offered him a contract and he hasn’t signed it. So, he is a free agent. You know, as we speak, he can sign a pre-contract.
“Whether he’s done that or not, according to him and his agent and the information that’s been provided to me, he hasn’t signed with anybody yet.
“And, you know, we’re a club with limited resources. We don’t have an unlimited budget. So, if I’m going to pay you R10 grand, I’m going to have to take R2 off another player’s budget and so on,” Benadie said in a recent public address.
“So, we’ve offered him a very competitive, what we think is a very competitive contract. And it’s now up to the player to decide if he wants to stay with us or go somewhere else. And we will prepare for both scenarios.”
Moloisane’s potential move to Naturena would align with Chiefs’ ongoing efforts to reinforce their squad with proven domestic talent, particularly in defence where consistency has been an issue.
While no official agreement has been announced, all indications point to the 27-year-old centre-back being one of the marquee local signings ahead of the next transfer window.
