Moroka Swallows are looking to retain experienced goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi for at least another season.

The Nigerian international’s current contract with the club expires at the end of the current campaign, but talks are underway behind the scenes, with an announcement on his future expected soon.

Indications from SN24’s sources suggest that Akpeyi has already impressed the technical team enough to earn a one-year extension beyond June 2024 potentially.

“Daniel Akpeyi’s progress at Swallows is not going unnoticed,” said the source. “The club is impressed with his work ethic and experience. He’s helping those around him, especially the younger players, to do well.”

“He is likely to stay beyond his current contract, which expires in June next year. The club is likely to offer him another contract extension of one year,” added the source.

Akpeyi joined the Dobsonville-based club towards the end of the 2022/23 Dstv Premiership campaign on a short-term deal and made an immediate impact. He was a free agent for almost a season after parting ways with Kaizer Chiefs, where he made a total of 57 league appearances.

The shot-stopper penned a new deal with the “Beautiful Birds” ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, which will keep him at the club until June 30, 2024.

The 37-year-old former Chippa United goalkeeper has been a regular in the team this season, featuring in all of Swallows’ 12 league games. He also played frequently last season.

Akpeyi, affectionately known as “Pastor” in the football fraternity, has previously played for Wari Wolves, FC Heartland, and Nasarawa United, among other clubs, throughout his career.
