With the first round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers done and dusted, focus now shifts to the riveting DStv Premiership race this weekend. 

Kaizer Chiefs remain in the doldrums after a bitter defeat to Orlando Pirated prior to the international break.

Kaizer Chiefs have one win to show off in their last five matches in all competitions. They beat Cape Town Spurs 3-2, while losing to Cape Town City, AmaZulu FC, Golden Arrows and Orlando Pirates.

And on Sunday, they face the resurgent Moroka Swallows. The Steve Komphela coached-side sits on fifth position having won five of the ten matches they played.

They drew three times while losing twice, totalling 18 points. In this one, Komphela will look to inflict more pain on his former paymasters, Kaizer Chiefs.

In their last ten meetings, the two sides drew on four occasions, with Moroka Swallows winning twice while Amakhosi won four times.

In another top fixture, struggling Richards Bay entertain Orlando Pirates on Saturday. Although, they are hamstrung by injuries the Bucaneers are sitting on a rich vein of form having won their last two matches.

ORLANDO PIRATES’ INJURY WOES

Those on the treatment bed include Azola Matrose, Innocent Maela, Kabelo Dlamini, Makhehlene Makhaula, Paseka Mako, Lesedi Kapinga, Kermit Erasmus and Thabiso Monyane and goalkeeper Sipho Chaine.

“The Buccaneers have had to navigate their way through a challenging period of injuries over the last couple of weeks.

“The increase in the number of matches has clearly taken its toll on the squad, resulting in numerous injury setbacks this season. 

“However, the twelve days provided by the break have offered some much-needed recovery time for Head Coach José Riveiro and his technical team,” the club said in a statement.

Jose Riveiro and his men are high in terms of confidence after acconting for the scalp of Sekhukhune United and arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs on a identical 1-0 scoreline.

On paper, they are the favorites as they face Richards Bay who have been one of the poor performing teams so far.

The KZN based club has only registered two wins in 12 matches, which has seen them stuck at the bottom of the DStv Premiership standings since the season started.

In another potentially exciting match AmaZulu FC will hope to keep their revival alive as they entertain Stellenbosch FC at home. 

They beat Golden Arrows twice in seven days before the break and they moved to eigth position on their tally.

Cape Town Spurs are also pencilled to host Royal AM on Saturfay while TS Galaxy take on Polokwane City on Sunday.

Golden Arrows will also aim to bounce back to winning ways when they take on Cape Town City on the same day.
