Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki has shared more details on the role played by his striker Jassond Gonzalez.
With the club having had problems in the number nine position, the Columbian forward has a task to bring back consistency in scoring goals.
During the Chiefs’ 0-0 stalemate against Royal AM on Saturday in a DStv premiership clash at the FNB Stadium, he was in action.
He’s yet to open his scoring account in the colours of Amakhosi. It was his second appearance after he featured in the MTN8 semi-final first leg against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Ntseki says the 24-year-old is a mobile striker, not the type that stands up front and waits for the ball. He believes Jassond Gonzalez is a good wing player and can take on defenders. He feels Chivaviro has the same attributes as the former Santa Cruz man.
NTSEKI ON WHAT REFERENCE GONZALEZ BRINGS AT CHIEFS
“I will always make reference to how Manchester City used to play without a striker. When I look at the profile of Chivaviro and Gonzalez, we are not going to play a game where we have a striker standing there all the time, who is helping the centre-back to defend the goal side,” Ntseki said.
“So with him [Gonzalez], we have somebody who is mobile, somebody who is on the side is a winger, and he can take players on and is solid on the ball.

“So I think it’s a very good mixture for us to have a proper profile of him. He will help us a lot going forward. Because it’s not only about him being a target man; it’s about him being a reference point.
“A reference point can be on the side, a reference point can be the midfield, a reference point can be at the top. But the most important thing is how you move defenders to create those scoring opportunities.
“So I think [on Saturday] he did well. There were times when he was facing goals, and he tried to take shots at goal and score.
“But I think over time he will be a player with Ranga that will help us going forward,” he added.
