What Kaizer Chiefs need to do to get the best out of Edson Castillo

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Edson Castillo has been a standout performer for the club, but there is a sense Coach Molefi Ntseki is yet to get the best out of the Venezuelan.

Former Chiefs goalkeeper William Shongwe believes Castillo could have a more significant impact on the team if he plays a more attacking role.

Edson Castillo has been playing as a defensive midfielder since joining Chiefs but has experience playing in a more attacking role.

“I said it five minutes before he scored [against Cape Town City] that Maart had stayed to be the one number six, and Castillo pushed forward to assist the offensive part of the team,” Shongwe said. “Little did I know he’d go as far as getting the goal. That, for me, is an excellent ability by a player.”

Shongwe believes that Castillo can break down opposition attacks and initiate moves and that he could be a key player for Chiefs if given more freedom to attack.

WILL MOLEFI NTSEKI GET THE BEST OUT OF CASTILLO?

Castillo hopes to continue his excellent form when Chiefs take on Stellenbosch FC in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday in Cape Town. If he can play to his potential, he could be the difference between the two teams.

Interestingly, Shongwe is not the only one who believes that Castillo could be more effective in an attacking role. Some Chiefs fans have also expressed this view on social media.

Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki will need to decide whether to give Castillo a more attacking role in the future. This decision could significantly impact Kaizer Chiefs’ chances of winning trophies this season.

The Soweto giants are without a trophy in eight seasons and will be looking to win a trophy this season.

While they have fallen behind in the DStv Premiership, they still have the MTN8 Cup and the Nedbank Cup, where they could lift some silverware.

But Mamelodi Sundowns stands in their way in the MTN8 as the two sides meet in the semi-final on Saturday.
