The Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee has fined Kaizer Chiefs for the violent conduct of their fans at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit a fortnight ago.

Chiefs were charged a few days ago by the PSL DC and appeared before the disciplinary committee, pleading guilty to crowd misbehaviour.

This comes after Chiefs lost 1-0 to TS Galaxy, and fans threw objects at their coach, Molefi Ntseki, after the game. The objects included plastic bottles and cans, and Ntseki was forced to be escorted off the field by the police and security personnel.

The Soweto giants’ communications manager, Vina Maphosa had confirmed that that no one got injured, but the club pleaded guilty

On Tuesday evening, following the disciplinary hearing, Chiefs were fined R100 000, as announced by PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu

“I can confirm that earlier this morning [Tuesday] Kaizer Chiefs appeared before the PSL DC to answer to charges of misconduct relating to the missile-throwing incident, otherwise known as spectator misbehaviour in their fixture against TS Galaxy,” said Majavu.

In explaining the verdict in detail, Majavu said: “They pleaded guilty as charged, and they were subsequently convicted. After listening to the deliberations, the PSL DC ruled as follows:

“Kaizer Chiefs was fined a monetary amount of R100 000, of which R30,000 is suspended for a period of 24 months on condition that they are not found guilty of the same offence.

“Effectively, Chiefs were ordered to pay R70,000 together with the cost of the seating, which would be administratively completed by the league and added on to the R70,000.

“Chiefs were further directed to send a written apology to the league and the sponsors and to also carry that apology on their website,” added the PSL prosecutor.
