Kaizer Chiefs veteran goalkeeper and captain has revealed why he believes Amakhosi will end their long trophy drought in the upcoming season.

The Soweto giants have gone eight years without winning any silverware, which Khune said it is ‘unfair’ to the club’s faithful.

Khune is the only surviving member of the last Chiefs team to win a trophy back in the 2014/15 season under the guidance of Stuart Baxter.

The ex-Bafana Bafana international is confident that the new players and coach will help the club win a trophy in the 2023/24 season.

He is satisfied with the squad Amakhosi have assembled so far. “Kaizer Chiefs is a big club in South Africa. It has a rich history of winning cups in the country,” said Khune.

The Soweto giants have signed seven players as they look to reclaim the glory days. The highly-rated footballers are Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Given Msimango, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Edson Castillo, Pule Mmodi, Tebogo Potsane and Ranga Chivaviro.

“It’s not fair that for the past eight years, we haven’t been delivering as expected from us But I think, with the quality we brought in, next season, I think we will challenge for big trophies next season.”

In addition, Khune said he is happy with the new man in charge, Molefi Ntseki, stating that the coach has the full support of the team.

“There were rumours that Nassredine Nabi was coming to Kaizer Chiefs, so I don’t know what happened,” added Khune as quoted by Dar24. “But we have a new coach [Ntseki]

“I heard about it [the Nabi rumours], I read about it, but things didn’t go according to plan. But we’re happy with the head coach we have, and we will give him the full support he deserves.”
