DStv Premiership side AmaZulu have joined Tanzanian giants Young Africans in the race for the services of highly rated striker Lionel Christian Ateba from Dynamo de Douala, SN24 can exclusively reveal.

Young Africans were amongst the first teams to express their interest for an in-demand Cameroonian forward. He is their main target ahead of the January transfer window.

Yanga have identified Ateba as a potential replacement for Fiston Mayele, who left the club and join Pyramids in Egypt. However, they are not the only ones keen on luring him into their roster.

The KwaZulu-Natal-based outfit has become one of the latest clubs to show interest in the player. Ateba has emerged as a transfer target for the Pablo Franco Martin-coached team, who are believed to have been following his progress with a view to possibly sign him in January or at the end of the current season.

SN24 sources have indicated that Usuthu scouts have recommended Ateba to the Pablo Franco Martin-led technical team.

Several European and Arab clubs contacted his agent to enquire about the services of Douala talisman.

“Dynamo Douala are inundated with enquiries for the services of rising star Ateba. It looks like the club will find it difficult to hold onto the player at the end of the season as interest in him is growing,” said the source.

LIONEL CHRISTIAN ATEBA’S EFFORTS REWARDED

Since joining Dynamo Douala from PWD Social Club Bameda in October this year, Ateba has made notable improvements with his inspiring performances. With six goals in eight games, Ateba has been impressive for Dynamo.

The 24-year-old’s hard work was recognised when he was selected by Indomitable Lions head coach Rigobert Song in the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mauritius and Libya. He was voted MTN Elite One League Player of the Month of October for his outstanding performances

With the January transfer window around the corner, clubs are looking at beefing up their respective squads.

It now remains to be seen whether AmaZulu or Young Africans could manage to convince Dynamo Douala to part ways with their prolific marksman.
