A highly-rated Kaizer Chiefs starlet has been suspended from representing the club for alleged mischief.
In recent weeks, 17-year-old Mfundo Vilakazi has not featured for the club’s DStv Diski Challenge side. Vilakazi burst onto the scene after shining for Doornkop Students in last year’s Philly’s Games.
Amakhosi quickly snapped him up and drafted him into their reserve league side. They envision further developing him and preparing him for the professional football ranks.
However, information reaching SN24 is that the youngster’s career has stalled due to a disciplinary issue.
“The boy and a few others from the team went to the shop at Tinties [opposite Sun City prison in Naturena], and they attempted to steal some goodies,” a source said.
“It looks like this thing was now a habit for these boys. They’ve probably been doing it for quite a while now.
“The shop owner was suspicious on the day, so he followed their movements via the CCTV cameras. He caught them red-handed in the act and called officials from Kaizer Chiefs.
“They came through and spoke to him. An agreement was reached that this would serve as a warning to the youngsters. That’s why it was not reported to the police.
“It was five of them, but Mfundo is the most prominent from that group.” The club reportedly suspended the youngster as part of their disciplinary action.
He has not featured in any of this season’s matches for the club. Chiefs have played Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu in the DDC this season. Due to the disciplinary issue, the Soweto-born midfielder is yet to feature for them.

It remains to be seen how long he will be sidelined as the club values the youngster nicknamed ‘Obrigado’. His absence has not necessarily slowed down the Naturena-based side.
Chiefs have played three DDC encounters against Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu Reserves. They have won two and drawn once against Pirates.
Donay Jansen was on target in that 1-1 draw and looks set to step up the senior team football. He was recently seen training with the Chiefs senior team and could soon land a professional contract.
Over the weekend, Jansen struck twice as Amakhosi came back from behind to beat SuperSport United 4-3. He was also on the scoresheet when Chiefs beat AmaZulu 5-1.
With Kamohelo Mahlatsi released, Jansen looks likely to get a professional contract. That would see him shadow the likes of Ashley Du Preez, Pule Mmodi and Tebogo Potsane.
