Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile is out for a few more weeks with a hamstring injury, and his coach, Rulani Mokwena, is confident he will overcome his injury woes.

The Sundowns head coach, Mokwena, was providing an update on the injury to the Namibian international.

The Brave Warriors forward was forced off in the 73rd minute of Sundowns’ 4-0 win over Golden Arrows on August 15th and has since sat out two games.

PETER SHALULILE MAY BE BACK SOON

Rulani Mokwena says it is difficult to predict when Shalulile will return, as he has a history of returning from injuries sooner than expected.

For example, Shalulile was expected to miss the entire 2022/23 season after undergoing surgery, but he returned after just three months.

“It is difficult to predict with Peter because he is a different breed. Peter has a different mentality, and his body reacts differently, so sometimes you think three or four weeks, but then he comes back a bit faster. You saw it last season when he was supposed to be out for almost the entire season, and he actually came back a lot faster than we anticipated, so we have to go day by day with Peter,” Mokwena added.

In the meantime, Mamelodi Sundowns will be without their star striker for a few more weeks. This is a blow for the Tshwane giants, who have won all five opening games in the DStv Premiership this season.

Mokwena’s side hopes that Peter Shalulile can return to the team soon, as he is one of their most important players. The 29-year-old has scored 77 goals in 122 appearances [all competitions] for Sundowns since joining the club in 2020.

Sundowns next face Polokwane City in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday, August 30th. They will be looking to maintain their 100 percent win record.
