Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki has described Mduduzi Mdantsane as the ‘missing link’ as the Soweto giants continue their push to end their trophy drought.

Mdantsane joined Chiefs at the start of the new season, and Molefi Ntseki has been impressed with the midfielder’s work ethic and qualities.

The 28-year-old made his first start for Chiefs in the 2-1 win over  Cape Town City FC in the MTN8 quarter-final at the weekend.

However, he did not feature in Amakhosi’s 2-1 defeat to Sundowns and came off the bench against Chippa United as the Soweto giants started the 2023/24 season on a bad note.

Mduduzi Mdantsane showed his class as he provided the assist for Ashley Du Preez’s equaliser against CT City before Edson Castillo netted the winner to seal Chiefs spot in the MTN8 semi-finals.

“I think we are a professional team, and we are a team of professionals in our technical team, and we always give respect to our opponents,” said Ntseki.

“By the way, we brought Mdu Mdantsane to the club because of his qualities. And we believe that he’s the missing link that we need to have in the club. I think he has done very well since he came in. We did not play him last week because we wanted him to have that hunger coming into this game.

“In terms of our game plan, he was that player that we needed to start with, and I think he had a very good game in terms of his overall performance.

“When it comes to us analysing our opponents, we do the same, irrespective of whether you come from the team [we’re playing] or whether you come from outside.

“We did our own analysis, we came up with a good plan, a good preparation, and that is why Mdu Mdantsane and the rest of the guys had a good game tonight.”

In the semis of the MTN8, Chiefs will take on Sundowns as they look to win their first trophy since the 2014/15 season.

However, they will first shift their focus to the league, where they are set to tackle TS Galaxy on Sunday.
