Thabo Cele has decided against a move to Kaizer Chiefs, dealing the club a major blow as he looks to stay in Europe.

The 26-year-old midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Amakhosi in the ongoing transfer window, but he could now opt to stay with his current club, Radomiak Radom, in Poland.

THABO CELE STAYING IN EUROPE

A close friend of the Bafana Bafana midfielder told SN24 that Cele had decided to continue playing overseas. “Thabo has decided to stay in Europe for now,” the source said. “He has a lot of unfinished business there, and he wants to see where he can take his career.”

Cele joined Radomiak Radom in October 2021 after leaving Portuguese side Cova Piedade. He has made 25 appearances for the club so far, scoring two goals.

The midfielder is a product of the KwaZulu-Natal Football Academy and is considered to be one of the most promising players in South Africa. He has represented the national team at Under 20 and Under 23 level.

Recently, he featured for Bafana in the COSAFA Cup in Durban. Cele’s decision to stay in Europe is a blow to Kaizer Chiefs, who were hoping to sign him to strengthen their midfield. However, the player has made it clear that he is not ready to return to South Africa just yet.

Cele’s decision is a reminder that the PSL is not the only place where SA players can achieve their dreams. There are many opportunities for talented players to develop their careers in Europe. Cele is one of the latest to take advantage of that.

It will be interesting to see how Cele’s decision pans out in the long term. If he can continue to develop his game in Europe, he could one day return to South Africa.
