Kaizer Chiefs is ‘mentally and tactically’ well-prepared to get a positive result against reigning league champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the much-anticipated match on Wednesday.

These are the words of Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki, who believes his troops are more than capable of beating a star-studded Sundowns side.

The DStv Premiership will be played on Women’s Day, 9 August, at the Lucas ‘Masterpieces’ Moripe Stadium in Atterdgeville, west of Pretoria, with kick-off set for 15:00.

Chiefs dropped two points in their opening league game of the 2023/24 season as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Chippa United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Sundowns began their league title defence last Friday with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Sekhukhune United in Polokwane.

The Tshwane giants’ technical team, led by head coach Rulani Mokwena, were in the stands when Chiefs played Chippa as they wanted to gather as much information as possible about Chiefs in preparation for their upcoming match.

And despite Ntseki raising concerns about his attack after the Chilli Boys game, he is optimistic that his troops will fire on all cylinders.

AMAKHOSI READY TO TAKE ON SUNDOWNS

“Going into the Sundowns game, I think we all know it’s a big game. We are all looking forward to a good performance, and a good performance will obviously bring a good result,” said Ntseki.

“What is important for us now is to say, mentally we are ready, tactically we are going to work on the strengths and weaknesses of our opponent, and we will also be exacting ourselves in terms of what are our best qualities.”

In addition, the Soweto giants coach said they feel the pain of the club’s supporters.

Kaizer Chiefs last made their fans happy back in the 2014/15 season when they won the league title under Stuart Baxter. That league triumph happens to be the last time Chiefs lifted a trophy.

“The disappointment has been too long, and we might be looking to be under pressure currently because of what we’ve been experiencing in the past,” admitted Ntseki.

“But we’re looking forward to doing our best and giving back to the supporters.”
