Arthur Zwane’s future at Chiefs in doubt

Kaizer Chiefs’ board of directors will have a meeting on Wednesday where they will discuss the future of coach Arthur Zwane amongst other things.

After the team’s exit in the Nedbank Cup semi-final, the support for Zwane to continue as the head coach became minimal from the management’s side.

ARTHUR ZWANE FUTURE HANGS IN THE BALANCE

According to our sources within the Amakhosi camp, Zwane is unlikely to be Chiefs’ coach next season.

“The Nedbank Cup was the only thing that was going to guarantee the coach his position. A lot of board members had lost hope in him.

“The only people who were still in his corner was Bobby [Motaung] and Kaizer Motaung Jnr,” said our source.

“Already, there are a few names that have been discussed, like Patrice Carteron, and the likes of Cavin Johnson were also mentioned.

“However, Zwane is not willing to serve as an assistant to a new coach, and the decision will surely be made about his future.”

Zwane took over the coaching reins in the last five games of the 2021/22 season when Stuart Baxter was sacked after a string of poor results.

RESTORE THE GLORY DAYS

Chiefs finished fifth in the log standings following the final day loss to Cape Town City.

Prior to the City loss, they fell to SuperSport United. The results looked to have sparked debate over whether Zwane has what it takes to restore the glory days.

Kaizer Chiefs fans are also disgruntled after an underwhelming season. Zwane’s overall league record: 30 games, 13 wins, 5 draws, and 12 losses. Bad scenes that occurred at The Royal Bafokeng Stadium also didn’t help his cause, where he was assaulted by a section of angry Chiefs fans.

Kaizer Chiefs have already made three signings so far. Given Msimango joins from TS Galaxy together with Cape Town City’s Mduduzi Mdantsane. SuperSport United defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe will also move to Naturena.
