Angolan midfielder Carlinhos has parted ways with Angolan giants Petro de Luanda, fueling speculation of a move to Cape Town City FC next season. The playmaker’s departure from the Angolan giants opens the door for a potential switch to the Mother City club, with reports hinting at a possible agreement already in place.

Cape Town City, aiming to improve on their fifth-place finish from last season, has been busy reshaping their squad under coach Eric Tinkler. They’ve already secured the signings of prominent players like Hashim Domingo, Kamohelo Mokotjo, Fortune Makaringe, and Sibusiso Ziba. In a bid to further refresh the squad, City has also shown the door to five players: Thabiso Kutumela, Jo Paciencia, Relebogile Mokhuoane, Bongani Mpandle, and Khanya Leshabela.

Interestingly, the departure of Jo Paciencia, Carlinhos’ countryman, creates a potential vacancy in City’s attack. The 27-year-old striker struggled to find his footing in South Africa, scoring just two goals in 21 league matches.

His departure opens the door for a potential replacement in the form of Carlinhos another Angolan midfielder whose arrival at City is imminent. During the 2023/24 season with Petro, the 29-year-old central midfielder racked up 20 appearances across all competitions, including five Champions League matches.

He also gained valuable experience playing on South African soil when Petro faced Mamelodi Sundowns in the inaugural African Football League [AFL] in the quarter-final stage held in Pretoria. Carlinhos honed his skills in the youth system of Angolan powerhouse Petro de Luanda.
