The PSL’s top four finishers in the 2023/24 DStv premiership season are vying for the signatures of Polokwane City’s talented duo, Oswin Appollis and Thabang Matuludi.

Orlando Pirates, Sekhukhune United and Stellenbosch FC have set their sights on Matuludi.

On the other hand, Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs, who finished 10th, are vying for Bafana Bafana winger Appollis.

Stellenbosch FC’s interest in Matuludi is particularly strong. Rise and Shine have already rejected two offers.

“We met with the club when the team went to Polokwane for the Carling match,” a source close to Stellenbosch revealed. “But they were not willing to negotiate.”

Sekhukhune United have also cooled their pursuit, understanding Polokwane City’s reluctance to sell to local rivals.

Chiefs’ interest in Appollis is reportedly driven by their incoming coach, Nasreddine Nabi, who is a big admirer of the winger’s talents.

POLOKWANE CITY’S STANCE ON OSWIN APPOLLIS & THABANG MATULUDI

Polokwane City coach Phuti Mohafe had high praise for Appollis, stating, “He is a national asset… The motivation to go elsewhere is driving him. Not going elsewhere around the country but abroad is what is driving him.”

Mohafe made it clear that the club was not willing to sell either player to local clubs, preferring to see them move abroad. This has led to a stalemate, with the PSL’s top clubs eager to secure the duo’s signatures but unwilling to meet Polokwane City’s demands.

“I don’t know if he has an overseas offer yet, but if the offer comes, it’s not going to be local. It has to be abroad,” said Mohafe.

Matuludi made the COSAFA Cup squad announced by Helman Mkhalele on Friday. This follows his exceptional season.

The talented fullback was one of the top performers at City during the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.
