DStv Premiership teams in the CAF inter-club competitions endured mixed fortunes in the group stage games played on Sunday.

After the African Football League success, Mamelodi Sundowns kept their winning momentum as they beat FC Nouadhibou to start the CAF Champions League group stages on a high note.The Tshwane giants registered a comfortable 3-0 win courtesy of goals by Peter Shalulile, Lucas Ribeiro Costa and Gastino Sirino.

As a result, they sit comfortably on top of Group A of the 2023/24 CAF Champions League campaign.

Egytian side Pyramids who beat DR Congo’s TP Mazembe 1-0 on Friday are second on the standings. 

TP Mazembe FC Nouadhibou are third and fourth respectively with nothing to show off.

SUPERSPORT UNITED, SEKHUKHUNE IN LOSING START

Meanwhile, SuperSport United started off their CAF Confederations Cup Group A campaign on a losing note after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Egypt’s Future FC.

Midfielder Ghanam Mohamed was the hero for Future FC after scoring the decisive goal in the 76th minute.

Future FC, however, struggled to capitalise on their home advantage during the first half, with SuperSport United’s solid defence limiting their chances. The other group match ended in favour of USM Alger who beat Al-Hilal Benghazi 2-0. 

United also began their Group D campaign on low note after losing 2-0 at the hands of Morocco’s RS Berkane.

Goals by Adil Tahif and Al Fahli in either halves of the match were all RS Berkane needed to overcome Sekhukhune United.

The other group match was won by Stade Malien who beat Diables Noirs 1-0. As it stands, Sekhukhune United and Diables Noirs have nothing to show off.
