Seasoned German coach
Ernst Middendorp, the former Kaizer Chiefs and Maritzburg United mentor, looks set to pipe Dylan Kerr to land to Cape Town Spurs job.

He has emerged as the frontrunner this week as the club intensified its search for a new mentor. The 64-year-old mentor parted ways with Tanzanian club Singida Fountain Gate two months ago.

He recently said he would be eager to get back into the dugout after his unceremonious exit from Singida.

On the other hand, Spurs also cut ties with Shaun Bartlett and have been actively seeking a replacement. Sean Connor has been in charge on an interim basis and is reportedly keen on the head coach job.

However, the club had Middendorp and Dylan Kerr among the top contenders for the job. Middendorp’s extensive experience and proven success in South African football make him a strong candidate for the Spurs job.

He has coached multiple PSL clubs, including Kaizer Chiefs, Maritzburg United, Moroka Swallows, Chippa United, and Bloemfontein Celtic, and has a reputation for stabilising teams and achieving positive results.

If appointed, Middendorp will face the challenge of revitalising Spurs, who are currently languishing in 16th position in the PSL standings. The club has only managed one win in their first 11 matches and will be hoping that Middendorp can breathe new life into their campaign.

An official announcement regarding Ernst Middendorp’s appointment expected in the coming days. Notably, the club has scheduled a press conference for Friday, which could be used to unveil the new coach. Spurs’ next fixture is against Royal AM at the DHL Stadium on November 25th.

They will be hoping to get one over Royal AM to start picking points as they approach the second half of the season.
