The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has announced the appointment of their new head coach of the national team.

The man at the helm has been the subject of speculation in South Africa where he was linked to struggling giants Kaizer Chiefs.

Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic was previously linked with the Kaizer Chiefs job, with Molefi Ntseki under fire for a poor start to the season. However, Sredojevic has now taken on the challenge of leading the Libyans to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Sredojevic is a highly respected coach in Africa, having coached Sudan’s Al Hilal, Orlando Pirates, Zamalek of Egypt and the Uganda national team.

The Libyan Football Federation hopes the 54-year-old can lead Libya back to the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since 2012. The country has never won the tournament but reached the semi-finals in 1982 and 2012.

His first task will be to prepare Libya for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. They visit Eswatini on November 13 before hosting Cameroon a week later for their first qualification matches in Group D.

WHY MICHO’S APPOINTMENT IS A MAJOR COUP FOR LIBYA

He is one of the most sought-after coaches in Africa and is expected to impact the Libyan national team significantly.

His contract with The Cranes, his second spell with the East African nation, was terminated in September after a failed 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

His first stint from 2013 to 2017 saw him guide Uganda to their first-ever AFCON finals in 38 years.

The Serb’s appointment is a sign of the ambition of the LFF. They are looking to challenge for major honours at the Africa Cup of Nations, and they believe he is the right man to lead them to success.

Overall, the appointment is a positive development for Libyan football. He is a good coach and is expected to impact the national team significantly.
