Cape Town Spurs head coach Shaun Bartlett is a determined fighter who will not give up easily as he has made it clear that he will battle until the very end.

Bartlett will not thrown in the towel, insisting that he will lead his charges – trying to change their fortunes until the management makes a decision.

His remarks come after his men CT Spurs troops sufferd their seventh successive defeat on Saturday in the DStv Premiership.

CT Spurs were beaten 3-1 by their rivals Cape Town City in the iKapa Derby at the newly renovated DHL Stadium. Bartlett’s CT Spurs scored first through Ashley Cupido before a penalty by Darwin Gonzalez levelled matters for CT City.

Khanyiso Mayo then scored a brace which saw the Citizens bag all three points. Despite enduring a disastrous start to the DStv Premiership, failing to win a single point in their seven opening matches, Bartlett said: “I’m not someone to just throw in the towel.

“In my whole life I’ve always persevered. I’ve always had my back against the wall. That guy with the blue shirt knows me (referencing veteran journalist Mark Gleeson), he’s been around my whole career.

“Nobody gave me a chance. So I’m always going to try my utmost best. That is my character. Where I come from, that is what they taught me to be in this position. I’ve got a very thick skin. I’ve got broad shoulders.

“That’s why I’m carrying this team and I will continue carrying the team until the decision is made. But that’s something for another day,” added Bartlett.

CT Spurs are languishing five points adrift of safety at the bottom of the log standings. And the club appointed Sean Connor as the club’s technical director with immediate effect a few hours after the CT City loss.

“Connor is a UEFA pro license coach with extensive experience in various roles in the industry.” Shortly after the appointment, rumours started to circulate that Bartlett will be fired as coach. However, it is worth noting that CT Spurs didn’t make any major signings and Bartlett is missing several of his key players. The club released a statement most recently stating that they are in full support of Bartlett.
