AmaZulu FC head coach Pablo Franco Martin has been left impressed by Taariq Fielies’ debut performance for the club on Monday afternoon in Polokwane.

Taariq Fielies put in a good shift on his first game in Usuthu colours and walked away with the Man of the Match award for his efforts.

In that DStv Premiership match, AmaZulu were held to a 0-0 draw by Polokwane City at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The 31-year-old defender penned a deal with AmaZulu a day before the September transfer window closed on the 22nd.

Fielies ended his successful six-year stay at Cape Town City, where he clinched the 2018/19 MTN8 title. AmaZulu’s FC coachFranco Martin was delighted with Fielies’ performance in his debut, considering that the player had only trained twice with the side.

The Spaniard praised Fielies for his contributions in both defence and attack.

“I think he played a very good game, not only in defence,” said Franco Martin. “He helped us build up. He understands the situations very quickly, we knew him as a player. We knew he has an experience in the PSL and was fit when he arrived. “He has trained twice with us but we played him because we knew he was going to be an important player for us.”

In addition, Franco Martin is happy with the squad at his disposal, but he is disappointed that the club was unable to sign some of the players he wanted during the transfer window.

“And now I think we are very, really happy with the team we have in our feeling regarding the positions,” he added.

“In the opposite feeling, we couldn’t get the players that we wanted or even the one or two that we signed because of different reasons are not here with the team. And that’s where we are lacking.”

“But with the signings of them and the signing of Taariq, I think in those areas, we are really, really strong. There’s going to be a good competition in the team.”
