Kaizer Chiefs is in talks with Stellenbosch FC over the services of talismanic midfielder Sbongiseni Ox Mthethwa, with rumours that Happy Mashiane is part of that deal.

Chiefs tabled their initial offer on Friday night, which was rejected. Of course, Stellenbosch CEO Rob Benadi on Saturday confirmed that they had received an offer from the Soweto giants.

Reports following that said Happy Mashiane was part of Kaizer Chiefs’ proposal. Contrary to those reports, SN24 can confirm that it is a cash-only proposal.

This means Mashiane, who came through the Chiefs academy, will stay put at Naturena.

Stellenbosch FC recently signed Chiefs’ left-winger Kgaogale Sekgota on a free transfer. This was after Chiefs released him after he slipped down the pecking order at Naturena.

The two – Mashiane and Sekgota – competed for the same position at Amakhosi. Stellies also have Qobolwakhe Sibande in that left-wing position and are unlikely to be looking for a player in that position.

On the other hand, Mashiane is certainly a part of coach Molefi Ntseki’s plans for the season.

CHIEFS RELEASE ACADEMY STAR

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs have released academy budding star Keletso Sifama after his loan spell at Casric Stars.

Sifama came through the ranks at the Soweto giants and was tipped for a bright future. He spent the 2022/23 season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, where he played for Casric Stars. He featured in a few games for Casric as they missed out on promotion to the DSTV Premiership.

While Casric were keen to retain his services, Sikhukhune United’s proposal was more appealing. The club intend to carve a path that it is expected to see him in the PSL soon.

In the meantime, he will play his football in the DStv Diski Challenge. He reunites with Paulus Masehe, who knows him from their time at Casric.

The former Free State Stars midfielder, Masehe, is in charge of Babina Noko’s DDC side.

Sifama has also had a loan spell at Pretoria Callies and Maritzburg United. He will be hoping to impress and break into the first team.
