Mamelodi Sundowns chairman Tlhopie Motsepe has announced that he will be taking on additional responsibilities abroad in addition to his current role at the Tshwane giants.

On Wednesday, Tlhopie said that he will pursue personal, business, and academic interests in Europe while furthering the Motsepe family’s business ventures on the African continent.

Tlhopie took over as chairman of Sundowns from his father, Dr Patrice Motsepe, who was appointed president of the  CAF. The CAF constitution prohibits the holder of its top position from running or owning a football club, so Dr Motsepe had to step down from his role at Sundowns.

The Sundowns chairman has been actively involved in the club since taking over, attending many matches and activities.

However, he has since written a letter to the Sundowns supporters, staff and stakeholders.

“I would like to inform you that I have undertaken additional responsibilities on top of my primary role as the Chairman of Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club, which will result in me not attending as many football matches as I did in the past,” said Tlhopie.

“I will be pursuing personal, business and academic interests in Europe, as well as advancing the Motsepe family business ventures on the African continent.
