Kaizer Chiefs has explained why his troops lacked creativity in their opening game of the 2023/24 season against Chippa United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
The fans came out in numbers, but the football on display was disappointing on Sunday afternoon as Chiefs were held to a goalless draw by Chippa in a DStv Premiership game.
The new-looked Amakhosi side struggled up front, failing to create any meaningful opportunities, putting in a lackstruce performance.
Ntseki expressed his dissatisfaction with how Kaizer Chiefs played but also praised Chippa for their resilience in defence

NTSEKI REFLECTS ON CHIEFS OPENING GAME OF THE NEW SEASON
It is important for us to take shots at goal, we did not do that today,” said Ntseki. “We can’t break a low block with those short passes.
“What is important is how do we add numbers forward and the type of crosses we put in. I think it is something that we need to work on. But we had too many of our attackers on the injury list.
“And that is why it was a bit difficult to have the right combinations and the right understanding, the right tactical coercion, especially going forward. I think with Ranga (Chivaviro) coming in with [Tebogo] Potsane as well coming in, we missed the likes of [Pule] Mmodi today.
“These are the players that will be coming back into the team, and we will be working on these phases and moments of the game where we have to create more goals and then score from those situations.
In addition, Ntseki admitted that it was a task to break down the Chippa defensive structure.
“They applied a very deep defensive block, which made it difficult for us to get behind the defence,” he added.
“It called for us to be more of a combination, trying to move the defenders, so when that did not happen, we had the wide players creating 1v1s on the sides, taking them on. But at the same time, whenever we wanted to put a cross in, they always had numbers, and the low block really worked for them.”
The Glamour Boys will be back in action in the league on Wednesday when they take on Mamelodi Sundowns.
