Former Orlando Pirates striker Gabadinho Mhango has joined Moroka Swallows in a shock move.
The Malawian international has signed a two-year contract with the Birds, with the option of a further year.
Gabadinho Mhango was released by AmaZulu FC on Friday night, with 14 other players deemed surplus to requirements.
Mhango’s move to Swallows comes as a surprise to many, as he was previously linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs.
MHANGO CHOSE MOROKA SWALLOWS
However, the striker has opted to join the ambitious Swallows, who are looking to challenge for the title in the 2023/24 season.
Mhango is a proven goal scorer, scoring 25 goals in 53 appearances for Pirates. He is also a versatile player who can be a striker or a winger. His arrival will add much-needed firepower to the Swallows attack.
The Swallows chairman, David Mogashoa, posted an image of The Flames forward flanked by head coach Steve Komphela and his assistant Musa Nyatama.
The move to Swallows is a gamble for Mhango, but it is one that he is confident he can win. He is a talented player with much to offer, and he could be the missing piece in the Swallows jigsaw. If he can hit the ground running, he could be a key player in their title challenge next season.
SWALLOWS ALSO SIGNED MABASA
Swallows also signed Orlando Pirates forward Tshegofatso Mabasa on loan. The talented forward was a hit at the COSAFA Cup last month and will look to resurrect his club career at The Birds.
The arrival of the two forwards, alongside Andile Jali, gives coach Steve Komphela enough ammunition for the season.

Komphela recently joined Swallows from Mamelodi Sundowns, where he served as an assistant coach.
Swallows kick off their campaign with a tie against Golden Arrows at the Mpumalanga Stadium in KZN. They hope to get their campaign off to a good start with a win on the road.
Komphela will face his former team, Sundowns, in the MTN8 quarterfinals on Saturday 12 August, 2023.
