Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe has welcomed the competition for starting spots at the club, stating that he is not threatened by the arrival Edson Castillo.

Instead, Siyethemba Sithebe said the battle for places will boot Amakhosi’s performances and bring the best out of the squad in the new season.

The midfield department at Chiefs has undergone changes ahead of the 2023/24 season. The Soweto side has signed two midfielders in Castillo and Mduduzi Mdantsane.

In the same position, The Glamour Boys also have Yusuf Maart, Samkelo Zwane, Geoge Matlou and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.

Castillo from Venezuela has already impressed Ntseki, and several of the Chiefs players as they praised the player following his showing in the club’s pre-season friendly matches.

He put in a good shift against Yanga Africans in Tanzania and Township Rollers in Botswana recently with Ntseki, Brandon Petersen, and Reeve Frosler declaring that Castillo is the real deal.

“Quality. I haven’t seen a player like him in a while. His vision, his understanding,” declared Petersen. “He’s just one of those players who can pick a pass out of nowhere that only he sees.”

Frosler added: “He’s a very good player. Castillo has done very well since arriving. He’s still working on the language barrier and it’s coming along nicely.”

Meanwhile, Ntseki also shared his views on Castillo. “You can see the quality and personality in him and that he’s a top-quality player.

However, Sithebe is unfazed by Castillo’s arrival, insisting that he is ready to fight for a starting berth under coach Ntseki

SITHEBE NOT THREATENED BY CASTILLO

“Castillo is a good guy. I visited him at the hotel and all those things,” said Sithebe.

“I won’t say now I have pressure or feel threatened. Sometimes competition is more important than anything in football because it makes you to work even harder.

“His arrival motivates me to pull up my socks,” added Sithebe, who featured in 28 matches in all competitions with zero goals and assists.
