Argentinian and midfielder Junior Mendieta will depart DStv Premiership side Stellenbosch FC after two-and-a-half years with the club.
Junior Mendieta has thanked his Stellies family and the fans ahead of his imminent move to Mamelodi Sundowns.
He leaves Stellies on the back of an impressive 2022/23 season where he was on fire. The attacker scored 10 goals and provided eight assists in the process.
JUNIOR MENDIETA OFF TO SUNDOWNS
He played a vital role as Stellenbosch finished sixth in the DStv Premiership with 40 points in the just-ended season. However, his name was surprisingly omitted from the list of nominees for the PSL Awards.
As reported in the media, the 30-year-old is set to join Sundowns next season on a four-year deal. Stellies were eager to keep the attacker at the club. Coach Steve Barker stated that he values him, but Sundowns’ offer was too good to be rejected.
The Tshwane giants acquired his services following the departure of Haashim Domingo. The latter has since joined Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca.
Sundowns reportedly beat Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United to the player’s signature.

EXPRESSED HIS GRATITUDE
Confirming his exit from Stellies, Mendieta took to social media to express his gratitude to the club’s staff and supporters.
“I’m respectfully addressing you to thank you for the opportunity and the love that you have given me all these years,” he said.
“I think I have done my job very well, and I have always given my best, and that leaves me at ease.
“I’ll always carry Stellenbosch in my heart and be grateful for all the love and affection they gave me and my family. Greetings, and thank you.”
