Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahli Saudi inched closer to promotion after beating Al-Sahel SC 3-1 on Monday night.

The result puts Mosimane’s side in good stead to win promotion to the Saudi Arabi Pro League.

Haitham Mohammed Asiri gave Ahli the lead just before half-time in the 42nd minute, while Hisham Al Dubai replied with an equaliser in the 61st minute to level the tie with roughly 30 minutes to play.

TOOK HOME MAXIMUM POINTS

Al Ahli scored two late goals to take home the maximum points. Ryad Boudebouz converted a penalty after 71 minutes, and Hicham Faik added the third seven minutes later to strengthen their lead.

Al Malaki, loosely translated The Royals, now sit on 62 points at the summit of the table.

They are three points ahead of second-placed Al Akhdood, who have a game in hand.

Al-Akhdood narrowly beat Jeddah 3-2 in their fixture on Monday to maintain pressure on Ahli for the title.

Al-Akhdood could still go above Ahli on Sunday if they win convincingly against Ohod. Mosimane’s side are only back in action next Wednesday.

MOSIMANE NEEDS ONE MORE WIN TO SECURE PROMOTION

The former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor’s side are also 18 points ahead of former Kaizer Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas Al-Faisaly.

Of course, Al-Faisaly still have two games to play in the non-promotion spot. The log standing means Mosimane needs one more win to secure the club’s return to the top tier.

Al Ahli’s promotion could be confirmed on Wednesday, should Al-Faisal not win their game against Ohod Club.

Mosimane’s record with Al Ahli Saudi Club has been nearly impeccable because he has picked up 15 wins, seven draws and just two defeats since arriving at King Abdullah Sports City.
