Mamelodi Sundowns chairman Tlhopie Motsepe has recently explained his decision to do the SAFA D Coaching Course.

The 32-year-old Sundowns boss was recently in a SAFA D class with Gavin Hunt’s 25-year-old daughter, Kaitlin Hunt.

The two made the news when they were pictured in the course organised by Ekurhuleni Region.

“Amongst 37 coaches attending the course, we are honoured by the presence of both Motsepe Tlhopie, the Chairman of Mamelodi Sundowns FC, and Kaitlin Hunt, the daughter of coach Gavin Hunt.

“We take pride to be the preferred partner in their coaching education and nation building,” read the post on their official Facebook page.

That tweet was accompanied by a picture showing Motsepe listening attentively.

“On the topic of the D licence, there has been a surprising amount of attention paid to the fact that I recently enrolled for my SAFA coaching badges,” Motsepe wrote in his Sundowns Magazine column.

“I would like to give the supporters of the club clarity and context on why I have chosen to do this and put aside any concerns that some may have about my intentions to coach.

“I am taking the course because, as a leader in our institution, I believe it is important to understand the challenges that development coaches and young players face; and ensure that our investments in grassroots football are done in a way that not only benefits the club but our country too.

“Franklin D Roosevelt once said, “We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future.”

The five-day program is an introductory course with daily training and assessment in theoretical and practical work.

With a D-License, a participant can train youngsters.

Motsepe, the son of CAF president Patrice Motsepe, has won his second DStv Premiership title as chairman of the Tshwane giants.

His sights will now be on the CAF Champions League, where the club has qualified for the quarterfinals.

Their only Champions League title came in 2016 under Pitso Mosimane.
