McCarthy, now at Manchester United, and Brandon Truter, who currently coaches Sekhukhune United.
As things stand, Sandile Zungu has some pondering to make on whether he should pull the trigger again after his coach Romain Folz has missed targets.
At the start of the season, Sandile Zungu said their target was a top-four place as they look to turn Usuthu into an elite club.
However, with six games before the end of the season, AmaZulu are in 12th place and can only think about a top-eight finish.
Even still, they have amassed 28 points, two adrift of eighth-placed Stellenbosch FC.
Their next five matches are not easy fixtures as they look to storm into the upper half of the table.
A source within the club has told SN24 that Zungu is set to make a decision on the 32-year-old coach.
“There’s a meeting between the coach and management this week. The president is not happy with the recent poor results,” the source said.
Folz penned a three-year deal in February and the agreement is set to kick in on 1 July 2023.
After 23 matches in the DStv Premiership, he has only managed three wins. From a possible 69 points, he has picked 23 points off six losses and 14 draws.
Folz’s AmaZulu also struggled in the Nedbank Cup last 16 where they were knocked out by Dondol Stars.
He was first appointed by Usuthu in October 2022 to replace Truter.
Zungu is on record as saying he will not allow external pressure to push him to fire ‘Fohloza’.
In March, Zungu said Folz and management were already planning for the new season.
Following that statement, Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Keagan Buchanan were shown the exit door.
