Sekhukhune United are inching closer to signing former youth international goalkeeper Darren Johnson with Toaster Nsabata rumoured to be on his way out.
As reported by SN24, Nsabata has fallen out of favour at Babina Noko, although he has a year left on his contract.
Club sources told this publication that management was mulling cutting ties with the Zambian international.
DARREN JOHNSON TRAINING WITH SEKHUKHUNE UNITED
Interestingly, Johnson is currently training with the club, with indications that a deal is imminent.
“The 26-year-old is a free agent and can join any club of his choice outside the transfer window and already spent several weeks at Babina Noko being assessed by coach Brandon Truter and his technical team,” SABC Sport reported.
Johnson’s last club was AmaTuks in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. Before his move to Pretoria, the Ajax Cape Town prodigy was with Cape Town Spurs and also had a stint with Black Leopards.
Nsabata, who was a goalkeeper of the season nominee last season after a sensational season, has fallen out of favour.
Ali Sangare, who arrived at the club at the start of the season, has played more games than him.
DISCUSSIONS CONFIRMED
The Zambia international has been fielded 10 times while Sangare has played 14 matches in the DStv Premiership.
Nsabata has let in eight goals in those 10 matches while keeping three clean sheets. On the other hand, Sangare has conceded 12 goals and kept seven clean sheets.
“He could sign before the end of the season. He is seen as a younger alternative who could have a lengthy stay at the club,” a source said.
His agent Sean Roberts confirmed that he was currently trying his luck at Sekhukhune United, adding that it was looking positive.
Johnson played an integral part in helping South Africa qualify for the Olympics, but his club career has not gone as well as he would have anticipated.
A move to the DStv Premiership with Sekhukhune United could resurrect his career.
