A Simba SC and Tanzania national team full-back Mohammed Hussein could end up at Kaizer Chiefs on a free transfer ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Amakhosi have already started recruiting players for the upcoming season after another underwhelming term in the DStv Premiership.
Mamelodi Sundowns have run away with the league title for the sixth successive season as Chiefs continue to struggle.
With three signings – Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Given Msimango and Mduduzi Mdantsane – already through the door at Naturena, Chiefs are pursuing a central defensive midfielder, a left-back and a striker.
Sifiso Hlanti, who plays left-back, seems to be on his way out and Chiefs will be looking to fill in that position, although Edmilson Dove can also play there.
The 27-year-old Mohammed Mohammed Hussein has emerged as a top target for the trophy-starved Soweto giants.
Interestingly, he could end up at Naturena on a free transfer, with his contract set to end in June.
A source close to the man nicknamed ‘Tshabalala’ after the Kaizer Chiefs legend has revealed that he is refusing to sign a new deal.
“He has three months left on his contract and has basically refused to sign a new deal. He has ambitions of playing his football outside Tanzania,” the source told SN24.
Before signing a new two-year contract in 2021, he was linked with a switch to Yanga SC.
However, he opted against the switch, which would have been frowned upon by the Msimbazi giants’ fans.
In Mohammed Hussein, Chiefs would be signing a leader who knows what it takes to win league titles.
With the Dar es Salaam giants, whom he joined in 2014 from Kagera Sugar FC, he has won three league titles, also captaining the side.
Besides winning the Tanzania Mainland League title, he also has three FA Cup titles, and comes armed with CAF Champions League experience, having featured nine times for Simba SC this season as they booked a spot in the knockout stages.
In his lengthy stint at Simba, they have reached the quarter-finals of CAF tournaments five times. Mohammed Hussein has previously won the player of the season award.
