AmaZulu FC have moved to secure the long-term future of 21-year-old defender Wandile Dube after exercising the option in his contract and opening discussions over an extended deal.
The move will keep the left-footed centre-back at Usuthu until at least the end of the 2026/27 season, with the club keen to further extend his stay as they view him as a key part of their future.
AmaZulu’s decision comes amid growing interest in the 21-year-old defender, who has attracted attention from Orlando Pirates. While the Buccaneers are not expected to make an immediate move, Dube remains on their radar as one of the promising young defenders in the Betway Premiership.
Aware that the academy graduate is likely to attract even more interest in the coming years, AmaZulu FC are looking to tie him down to a longer contract that would both secure his services and protect the club’s position should bigger offers arrive.
Dube enjoyed a breakthrough campaign during the 2025/26 season, making nine appearances across all competitions. Although he largely played behind experienced defenders Sandile Mthethwa and Taariq Fielies in the pecking order, the club regards him as a capable long-term option in central defence.

ARTHUR ZWANE’S STANCE ON WANDILE DUBE
The defender earned promotion to the senior team ahead of the 2025/26 season following impressive performances in the DStv Diski Challenge, where he captained AmaZulu’s reserve side and established himself as one of the club’s standout young prospects.
His senior debut came against Sekhukhune United in August 2025, and he has continued to develop under coach Arthur Zwane.
Zwane has previously cautioned against comparisons between Dube and former Pirates defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi, stressing that the two players are developing under vastly different circumstances.
The AmaZulu coach believes Dube has potential but has emphasised the importance of introducing the youngster gradually to allow him to grow without unnecessary pressure. There is a sense that he could get more minutes in the coming season as he continues his development.
