Benni McCarthy, who is out of contract at Manchester United next month, has dropped a Kaizer Chiefs hint amidst uncertainty about his future.

McCarthy’s future at Manchester United hangs in the balance as his contract expires at the end of June. Despite winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup during his two years as the striker’s coach under Erik ten Hag, the club has yet to offer him a new deal.

On the other hand, Chiefs, a club he grew up supporting, is in search for its next head coach. This comes as Chiefs concluded a disappointing season. Amakhosi finished in tenth place, prompting the departure of interim coach Cavin Johnson. The club has openly expressed their search for a permanent replacement for former coach Molefi Ntseki.

The ex-Cape Town City and AmaZulu mentor is among many names linked with the vacant position at the Soweto giants.

WHAT BENNI MCCARTHY SAID ABOUT THE KAIZER CHIEFS JOB

“Not many coaches in the world say no to institutions. Man United is an institution. Real Madrid is an institution. Bayern Munich is an institution,” McCarthy told MSW.

He pointed to the recent move of ex-Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany to Bayern Munich. With it, he highlighted how challenging it can be to refuse an offer from such a prestigious club.

“And I think Kaizer Chiefs you can safely say that Kaizer Chiefs is also an institution.

“It’s a great club. It’s a club that I’ll always have a lot of love for. Because it’s my local team, my team in South Africa that I supported as a kid. Loved the Black and Gold, everything Kaizer Chiefs.

“Unfortunately, I’ve never had the pleasure to play for them, or to coach them.

“I can’t really speak on others but if the opportunity comes, if the opportunity arises or anything… Of course you would have to sit down and think about it because like I said, you don’t say no to institutions.”

McCarthy’s future at Manchester United is expected to be clarified in the coming days.
