Kaizer Chiefs’ disappointing form continues, with the club facing a ninth consecutive season without silverware and fullback Dillan Solomons has candidly opened up about the team’s struggles.
The former Moroka Swallows player highlighted a mental block that seems to plague them in the wake of conceding goals.
Amakhosi suffered their biggest defeat at the hands of arch-nemesis Mamelodi Sundowns. The Brazilians wrapped up their seventh league title with a 5-1 drubbing of Chiefs at the FNB Stadium recently.
“I don’t know the answer to that question, but I think I can work out something for you,” Solomons admitted when asked about the factors holding back the team’s progress. “I think mentally it’s been tough, trying to figure out how we go about things, how are we going to try and win games.”
Solomons pinpointed a specific area of concern: the team’s inability to bounce back after conceding. “I think for us, it’s just when we concede, I think that’s been our mental block… where we concede and we can’t get back into games,” he explained.
DILLAN SOLOMONS EXPLAINS KAIZER CHIEFS’ MENTAL HURDLES
This mental hurdle was further illustrated by Solomons referencing a recent match against Richards Bay. Despite creating ample chances in the first half, he pointed out that after conceding, Chiefs struggled to generate further opportunities.
However, Solomons isn’t dwelling on the negatives and instead offered constructive solutions. He emphasized the need for greater attacking support for the strikers, including better crosses and improved chance creation from the midfield.

“But I feel like also we need to create more chances for our strikers, me included… and then our midfielders creating the chances for our strikers to score, so I think that’s something that we need to work on,” he stated.
Solomons’s insights offer a valuable perspective on the internal issues Chiefs are battling. The club’s lack of silverware is a complex issue, and this acknowledgment of the psychological aspect brings a new dimension to understanding their challenges on the pitch.
