Ghanaian football witnessed a historic moment on Wednesday as former SuperSport United star Kuda Mahachi netted his first goal in his first start for reigning champions Medeama SC.

The 30-year-old winger, aptly nicknamed ‘Nkembe’ for his pace, proved his worth with the decisive strike in the 34th minute against Basake Holly Stars, propelling Medeama into the next round of the MTN FA Cup.

Both triumph and adversity have marked Mahachi’s journey to this pivotal moment. Unattached since June 2022 due to personal struggles, he was falsely accused of child abuse, charges later cleared by the Zimbabwean courts. The Zimbabwe international persevered, joining Medeama on a one-year deal in August, becoming the first Zimbabwean player in Ghana’s top league.

Before Wednesday’s heroics, Mahachi made a substitute appearance in Medeama’s 2-0 away win against Legon Cities. But his first start proved to be the stage for his redemption and talent to shine. His goal, the only one of the match, showcased the attacking prowess that once saw him excel in Zimbabwe and South Africa, playing for clubs like Mamelodi Sundowns, Golden Arrows, and Orlando Pirates.
