Wounded DStv Premiership giants Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates have an opportunity to bounce back to winning ways, albeit in tricky mid-week fixtures.
After firing blanks against Richards Bay last weekend, Orlando Pirates aim to correct their poor conversion rate when they host Moroka Swallows at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday. The match is set for 19h30.
The sea robbers have been firing blanks in their last matches. After 11 games, they are 9th on the log standings with 16 points from four wins, four draws and three defeats.
At this point, they are 11 points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns with two games in hand.
What makes it problematic for them as they prepare to host the resurgent Moroka Swallows is their conversion rate.
They have only scored 11 goals while conceding eight goals. However, Jose Riveiro said he is not worried.
SUNDOWNS OUT TO EXTEND THEIR RECORD
Although they are hurt by the 1-0 loss to TP Mazembe in the CAF Champions League, Mamelodi Sundowns hope to extend their winning record in the DStv Premiership.
The Tshwane giants set a new record after beating SuperSport United 2-0 to become the first club in the PSL era to garner nine straight wins from the start of the season.
They are set to play away to AmaZulu FC at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday at 19h30.
Ahead of this one, both sides are hamstrung by injuries, and AmaZulu FC coach Pablo Franco has already revealed his worries.
“The issue is that we will not be able to prepare; we don’t have many options [in the squad] in terms of rotating players in some positions. From there, we need to be able to know that we are playing for the future.
“We are willing to at least fight for the top eight and be a consistent team and wait for the January transfer window and get some signings to strengthen the team,” he said.
Exactly12 points separate the two teams, with Sundowns sitting on 27 points in first position, while AmaZulu FC are 11th in the standings with 15 points.
