Former Bidvest Wits midfielder Phumlani Ntshangase’s search for a new home has taken him to Cape Town Spurs.
The talented defensive midfielder has reportedly been invited for trials at the struggling Cape side. Spurs are currently perched at the basement of the DStv Premiership table, having only won one game. They beat Orlando Pirates 2-1, losing all other 12 games.
Recently, they beefed up their squad, bringing in Bradley Ralani, just before hiring veteran German Ernst Middendorp. The Middendorp appointment was followed by that of Moses Thembalami, a goalkeeper coach who was with the German in Tanzania. The two worked together at Singida Fountain Gate before Middendorp quit after just two weeks.
NTSHANGASE MAKING A RETURN TO FOOTBALL
Ntshangase is looking to make a return to the South African football scene after a brief hiatus. The 28-year-old’s career had stalled, plagued by a lack of consistent playing time.
His last stint was with Baroka FC, and his arrival at Spurs could inject a dose of excitement into the club and ignite hopes of a Ntshangase resurgence.
Phumlani Ntshangase’s talent has never been in doubt. He rose through the ranks at Wits, showcasing his grittiness in the middle of the park. At Spurs, he would reunite with Middendorp, who coached him at Maritzburg United.
“Phumlani is a quality player,” says the source. “He has a lot to offer, and the club believes he can rediscover his best form here at Spurs. Coach Middendorp has recommended him and a striker. He is creating a positive environment where players like Ntshangase can thrive, and he’s confident he will make a significant contribution.”

Ntshangase’s arrival could add a new dimension to Spurs’ midfield. His ability to break up play and screen the defence could strengthen the Mother City outfit.
Indications are that the club will assess him over the next few weeks before making a decision. Should they be impressed, the club will look to sign him during the January transfer window.
The DStv Premiership will go on a break and resume in mid-February after the Africa Cup of Nations. Bafana Bafana are taking part in the upcoming tournament and will look to make an impact.
