Sekhukhune United won their first group stage match in the CAF Confederations Cup while SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns lost their respective assignments.

Babina Noko beat a battling Diable Noirs 2-1 on Sunday night, while SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns lost to USM Alger and TP Mazembe respectively.

Congolese forward Alves Ngakosso-Oko opened scored for Diable Noirs with a rasping shot from range after 27 minutes.

Moments later Sekhukhune United restored parity through Kamohelo Sithole who slotted the ball home from inside the box after the Diable Noirs’ defenders failed to clear their lines.

Captain Daniel Cardoso then scored what would be the DStv Premiership side’s winning goal after 44 minutes with a powerful volley from outside the box.

And the Lehlohonolo Seema coached side went to the break leading before gallantly defending their lead to pick their first set of maximum points in the CAF Confederations cup group phase.

The win saw them recover from their defeat to Morocco’s RS Berkane last weekend. In addition, the win leaves them on third position with three points together with Stade Malien who are second.

RS Berkane sit on top of Group D with six points, while Diables Noirs are bottom of the pile with nothing to show off.

SUPERSPORT CONTINUES SINGING THE BLUES

On the otherhand, SuperSport United continue singing the blues after suffering yet another defeat at the mercy of reigning Caf Confederations Cup champions, USM Alger.

They lost their first CAF Confederations Cup Group A match at the hands of Future FC of Egypt.They lost 1-0 in a match that was played in Egypt. 

Gavin Hunt and his men were also coming from a defeat in the DStv Premiership Tshwane derby and it only took five minutes for them to concede.

Lanky defender Saadi Redouani scored from close range to give the visitors the advantage at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Brahim Benzaza doubled the scores for USM Alger after 56 minutes to add more salt onto SuperSport United’s wounds.

Coach Hunt tried to tinker with his squad in the second half where he introduced the pair of Godspower Ighodaro and Lyle Lakay.

Sadly, their efforts were not enough to help save the day for the Pretoria-based side, who remain with nothing to show off on their tally.

SUNDOWNS FALL IN THE DR CONGO

Meanwhile Mamelodi Sundowns went down 1-0 in their CAF Champions League group A encounter against TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi on Saturday.

The Tshwane giants were dominant in the match but were left to rue several chances as Glody Likonza scored the only goal of the match to give TP Mazembe the win.

The defeat leaves Sundowns on three points from two games after opening their campaign with a 3-0 victory over Mauritanian outfit FC Nouadhibou.

They however remain at the summit of the group, though with all teams tied on the same number of points, after Pyramids lost to FC Nouadhibou.
