Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has called on his side to be at their best when they take on Wydad Athletic Club in the second leg of the African Football League (AFL) final on Sunday.

Bafana Ba Style will welcome Wydad at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday, 12 November 2023. The kick-off for this much-awaited CAF AFL mouthwatering showdown final is at 15:00.

Masandawana goes into this encounter with a 2-1 goal deficit from the first leg played in Morocco last weekend.

“We know how difficult this game is. Of course, it’s a continental final the second leg. We were clear to say it was the second half of the match.

“We are also understanding that this is our first final in seven years since 2016 against a team that has played the last two Champions League finals. They have been in the last seven semi-finals in the last eight Champions League semi-finals.

“So, it’s a team with experienced players in this type of game. They come to South Africa with the advantage of the scoreline. But we take a lot of confidence from our performances.”

However, Mokwena has so much faith in his players given how they performed in the first leg away from home. “I think we are the second-best team to go to Wydad and dominate the ball, had more ball possession than them, and had more passes than them,” he added.

“That gives us the confidence that we know we can play better in front of our crowd and our people. But we know how difficult the assignment is and we are looking forward to it.”
