Kaizer Chiefs starlet Donay Jansen, who is knocking on the first team door, has been hit with a four-week suspension for misconduct.

His suspension comes at a time when the club has released two of their DStv Diski Challenge stars.

Puso Dithejane and Omega Mdaka were released last week by the club over the same issue as Jansen.

The youngsters reportedly refused to perform ball retriever duties against AmaZulu in the Carling Knockout Cup. When they appeared before the club’s disciplinary committee, Jansen apologised, while Mdaka and Dithejane would not back down.

Mdaka, 19, a left-back, had been asking to be released by the club as he felt he had no future at Naturena. Dithejane had other disciplinary issues that the club took into account.

WHY JANSEN WAS HIT WITH FOUR WEEK SUSPENSION?

“So, the difference between Jansen and the other two – Mdaka and Dithejane – is that he apologised. The other two made it clear they were not going to apologise. The issue was that they refused to be ball boys against AmaZulu. But with Dithejane there were other serious allegations against him, so the club thought to cut their losses,” a source said.

Nonetheless, anyone wanting Dithejane and Mdaka will be required to pay compensation to Kaizer Chiefs of R1.5 million.

Meanwhile, Jansen will be back in action in December when he completes his suspension period. He remains suspended from all club activities.

“The club is committed to upholding its values and ensuring that all players and staff conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times,” added the source.

Donay Jansen, 20, is a product of the Chiefs youth academy and recently trained with the senior team.

He is considered to be one of the club’s most promising young players, but his suspension is a major setback for his development.
