Kaizer Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki has suggested that the fans’ lack of patience has not helped his team as they continue to struggle in the 2023/24 season.
The Soweto giants suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the Carling Knockout Cup at the hands of AmaZulu FC on Saturday night at FNB Stadium in Soweto.
Usuthu scored in the 88th minute of the game through Fielies to win the Last 16 clash 1-0, with Chiefs supporters acting violently for the fourth time this season after the game.
Ntseki had to be escorted by police through the tunnel as angry Amakhosi fans hurled objects in his direction as they did in defeats against TS Galaxy, SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns.
With Kaizer Chiefs now at risk of playing without their fans: potential stadium ban and further monetary fine, Ntseki has expressed his disappointment at the club’s faithful’s unruly behaviour.

“I think it’s difficult if one has to explain the space I find myself in. I always say when you prepare, you prepare to win. But when you lose games like this, you’re always worried about what will happen at the end of the game,” said Ntseki.
“I don’t think it’s a good thing for football. It has turned out to be more like every training session you have is the last training session. Every game you play is your last game.

“You’re more worried about the results. I’ve been saying it’s preparation, preparation, preparation. Yes, you’re not getting the results, and you own up as a coach. And the results are not coming. The former Bafana Bafana coach also accused Amakhosi fans of being out of step with the reality of the club’s project as they re-build with new players in the fold in an attempt to end the eight-year trophy drought.
Molefi Ntseki said the fans’ lack of patience when the results are not coming makes his job difficult and affects the players, insisting that SA football supporters are generally impatient.
“In terms of South African football supporters, I think the biggest challenge is that we’re not very supportive. We’re not patient when results are not coming,” he added.
“It is very unfortunate for incidents like this (fan violence). But who am I to bring a stop to incidents like this? But, at the end of the day, it worries you more because you’re a family person. You’re a South African. And you see your people not having patience in the hard work that you put in.

“I hope supporters will learn to understand that results are not determined by individuals before the game starts. Results are determined by the goals you score and the goals you concede.”
