A frustrated Stellenbosch coach, Steve Barker, has voiced out his disappointment at Molefi Ntseki as the Kaizer Chiefs coach expressed interest publicly in highly-rated star Sibongiseni Mthethwa.

Barker said Ntseki’s remarks were rather disrespectful, insisting that the Chiefs coach was not supposed to confirm interest in a player who is still contracted to another club.

Stellies midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa has been linked with several clubs, including Chiefs, following his impressive performances in the DStv Premiership in the last two seasons.

During Amakhosi’s media open day at Naturean in midweek, Ntseki stated that Chiefs would love to have a player like Mthethwa at the club as he is a good midfielder.

“As a coach, I wouldn’t do that,” said Barker after Stellenbosch FC played out to a 0-0 draw against Golden Arrows on Saturday at Mpumalanga Stadium in KZN.

BARKER DEMANDS RESPECT FROM NTSEKI

“I have got the desire to have many players from other clubs. But at the end of the day, if we are Stellenbosch, we want a footballer from another team, we get our management, our CEO [Rob Benadie], to engage formally with them, and that is the way we do it.

“It is a bit frustrating when it goes out to the media because the player is a Stellenbosch player, and for me, that is not the way to show it.”

Barker went on to say that he is not entirely bothered by the reports making the rounds in the media about Mthethwa potentially leaving Stellies to join Chiefs.

Indications are that Amakhosi are eager to sign the Bafana Bafana midfielder, and as per SABC Sport, Stellenbosch Fc CEO Benadie has that the Soweto gaints have tabled an offer for Mthethwa.

“You know he is a good player, and we all know that he has had a good time with us. You know when you have a good player and the window’s still open, there will always be speculation,” added Barker.

“But right now that is all it is. I’m just glad that he is committed to us and once again he put in a very good performance.”
