FCSB president George’s Becali has lauded the performance and skills of ex-Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana.

Ngezana put in a solid performance in his first start to help FCSB beat Univ Craiova in Romania’s Superliga a week ago.

But his display in his full debut for the club two weeks ago, when they lost 2-1 against Arad, impressed Becali.

In that game, FCSB also suffered a big injury blow as influential defender Vlad Chiricheș was stretched out and will be on the sidelines for a long time.

The injury is a blessing in disguise for Ngezana as it has opened the door for him to showcase his ability. The former Amakhosi defender joined the Romanian giants in June.

BECALI PLEASED WITH NGEZANA

Becali said Ngezans perfectly replaces the former Tottenham and Napoli defender Chiricheș. The club president even claimed Ngezana was better than the Romania national team captain, Chiricheș.

“I was surprised to see that Ngezana is even better than Chiricheș. I was very impressed by Ngezana,” said Becali, as quoted by PlaySport.

“He has strength, and you can do nothing about him. You pass him; he speeds up, catches up and stops you. Ngezana, [Joyskim] Dawa, and a few central defenders will certainly remain [at the club].

“Even if Chiricheş recovers. Ngezana has a quickness that I like. That’s incredible. [He] will get better and better. He did not let Andrei Ivan breathe.”

Meanwhile, Siyabonga Ngezana was also happy with his efforts in the 3-0 win over Univ Craiova. “I am happy that the team did not concede a goal. It is not easy to change the country. I needed time to adapt. It was not easy for me to sit on the bench, but I thought my opportunity would come,” he told Digi Sport.

“I hope I played a good match today. It’s not easy for me. It’s a dream for me to be able to play in Europe. “I felt good, and playing in a full stadium was a motivation. For the players, it’s nice to see the stadiums filled up.”

Ngezana will aim to continue impressing the club during the FIFA international break before returning to league action against Farul on 17 September.
