Despite Kaizer Chiefs’ recent string of victories, coach Molefi Ntseki is not getting carried away, saying that the team still has a long way to go.

Kaizer Chiefs won two consecutive games in the DStv Premiership heading into their all-important MTN8 semi-final clash against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday at FNB Stadium.

Molefi Ntseki troops are high on confidence as they beat AmaZulu FC 3-0 before cruising past Stellenbosch FC 2-0 at Athlone Stadium on Wednesday night. 

Moreover, Ntseki acknowledged the positive trajectory the team had been on lately as they also climbed to fifth place on the log standings with seven points after five games. 

However, Ntseki believes Amakhosi need to be consistent if they want to challenge for trophies He highlighted the significance of the small victories in terms of the players’ tactical understanding and team dynamics.

NTSEKI SAYS CHIEFS’ RECENT WINS ARE “BABY STEPS” 

“I think we have a long way to go because we are talking about a marathon,’ said Ntseki. 

“We have just played a few games; in those few games, there are those baby steps that we are taking in terms of the tactical understanding.

The Chiefs coach also highlighted specific areas of progress, noting that the team was adapting and evolving effectively even with new players in the line-up.

“If we look at our back four, two new players [Given Msimango and [Thatayaone Ditlhokwe] that have started since we started playing as a team,” he said. 

“I think if we look into the midfield, there is that understanding that is developing between Yusuf Maart and [Edson] Castillo. 

“Up front is also more understanding, in terms of the selection of passes, the type of passes, the type of runs whenever we are in possession. So, we always go back and correct wherever we need to correct. 

“I think there is very good progress from the past games we have played.”
