Kaizer Chiefs have officially closed the Khama Billiat chapter, with strong indications ruling out the Zimbabwean international’s return to Naturena.

Billiat’s contract with Chiefs expired at the end of June, and the club had offered him a new deal, but the player has yet to respond to their offer.

The club recently explained that Billiat had yet to respond to their new contract proposal.

KHAMA BILLIAT CHAPTER CLOSED

“Following the expiry of attacking midfielder Khama Billiat’s Kaizer Chiefs contract on 30 June 2023, the Club tabled a new offer for the Zimbabwean marksman to remain with Amakhosi,” read a club statement.

“However, to date, the player has not responded to the offer or any attempts to contact him.”

Billiat was last seen at the Kaizer Chiefs Village on 29 June and “has not answered any of the calls made or messages sent to him by the Club”.

Chiefs travelled to Tanzania to play Young Africans last weekend before making another trip to Botswana, and Billiat was not part of those two trips.

Billiat’s departure from Chiefs is a blow to the club, as he was among their most talented players. The Zimbabwean international won league titles with Mamelodi Sundowns and has endured a barren spell at Amakhosi.

NEW PLAYERS BROUGHT IN

However, Billiat’s injury record has been a significant concern in recent years, and he has not been able to perform at his best consistently.

Chiefs have already moved on from Billiat and have brought in several new players in his place.

The Soweto giants brought Pule Mmodi from Golden Arrows and Tebogo Potsane from Royal AM in the wide attacking positions.

Mmodi starred in Tanzania against Young Africans and was easily one of their brightest players on the pitch.

In defence, Chiefs have brought in Given Msimango and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe. Edson Castillo and Mduduzi Mdantsane form a new-look midfield department, while Ranga Chivaviro could be deployed at the tip of the spear of Coach Molefi Ntseki’s attack.

The departure of Billiat is a sign that Chiefs are entering a new era. The club is looking to build a young and exciting team, and they are confident they can succeed without Billiat.
