Congolese forward Fiston Mayele is close to joining a new club as he inches closer to an exit from Tanzania’s Young Africans.

Mayele has been impressive for Young Africans in the last two seasons. At the end of the 2022/23 season, he was crowned Tanzania’s Most Valuable Player.

The Congolese marksman also won the top goal scorer award after registering 17 league goals. His tally for the last two seasons stands at 54 and has seen him attract interest from Egypt, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Yanga president Engineer Hersi Ally Said is on record saying they have solid offers from North Africa. He vowed the club would not stand in his way if a good offer was presented.

FISTON MAYELE NEARS YANGA EXIT

“At the moment, we have two solid offers from Saudi Arabia and North Africa,” he said in a recent interview.

“He has been exceptional for us, and we’re at a place where we are happy to let him go if the offer is right.

“We definitely won’t stand in his way should we get the right offer for both the club and the player.”

It has since emerged that Egyptian outfit Pyramids FC, home to Fagrie Lakay, are frontrunners for his signature.

The move would be a major coup for Pyramids, who want to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2023/24 season. Mayele is a prolific goalscorer and would add a new dimension to Pyramids’ attack.

The 29-year-old’s exit from Young Africans would be a major blow for the Tanzanian club. He has been one of their most important players in recent seasons, and his goals have helped them win the Tanzanian Premier League twice successively.

FINALISING THE PAPERWORK

With a season left on Mayele’s contract, Pyramids and Yanga are finalising the paperwork for the deal.

If Mayele does join Pyramids, it would be a major statement of intent from the Egyptian club. They are looking to build a team that can challenge for the CAF Champions League, and Mayele would be a valuable addition to their squad.

The transfer is still not finalised but is expected to be completed in the coming days. Mayele would become Pyramids’ second summer signing after they also signed midfielder Mohamed Farouk.

The move would be a significant boost for Pyramids and a sign that they are serious about challenging for silverware in the upcoming season.
