Khama Billiat’s time at Kaizer Chiefs may be coming to an end, as the club is reportedly planning to release him before the start of the new season.
The Zimbabwean attacker is out of contract as his Chiefs deal expired at the end of June. His future has been a subject of speculation.
Billiat has been with Chiefs for the past five seasons without much success. The 32-year-old has failed to replicate the form that saw him become a household name in South African football while at Mamelodi Sundowns.
At Chiefs, he has scored 24 goals and provided 29 assists in 126 matches as the club’s trophy drought continued. Meanwhile, in Sundowns colours, Billiat netted 48 goals and further contributed with 43 assists. On top of that, he won three league titles at the Tshwane giants, the CAF Champions League, CAF Super Cup and several Cup competitions.
The past season proved to be Billiat’s worse at Chiefs as he only featured in 12 games in all competitions with no goals to his name. He only managed to provide three assists as he suffered an injury which kept him out for the most part of the 2022/23 season.

KHAMA BILLIAT SET FOR KAIZER CHIEFS EXIT
Billiat’s struggles fuelled talks that he could be shown the exit door by Chiefs, who have already released Phathutshedzo Nange, Cole Alexander and Erick Mathoho, with Siyabonga Ngezana sealing a move to Romanian Liga I club FCSB.
In addition, the club extended Sifiso Hlanti and Itumeleng Khune’s stay and announced the arrival of six new players; Thatayoane Ditlhokwe Given Msimango from TS Galaxy, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Ranga Chivaviro and Edson Daniel Castillo.
However, Amakhosi have remained mum on Billiat, who did his medicals at the club last season before his contract expired.
And it has been reported that Billiat has not trained with Chiefs in the last few days as his contract with the club expired. Indications are that, the Soweto side and the player could not agree on a new deal.
It said that Chiefs proposed a new contract which would have seen Billiat take a massive pay cut, but the player has seemingly turned it down. He is currently not part of Amakhosi, who are in camp for pre-season.
With his experience and pedigree, Billiat won’t be short of suitors as he previously attracted interest in North Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
