Former Kaizer Chiefs attacker Mandla Masango has taken a swipe at PSL clubs, stating that they don’t respect players.
Masango did not hold back, firing a broadside at DStv Premiership teams for not taking the ‘craft’ of the players seriously.
The 33-year-old made these remarks after receiving an offer he deemed ‘disrespectful’ from a Premiership outfit.
He has been clubless since 2018 following a stint with Danish club Randers FC where he netted seven goals in 29 matches.
Masango declared that he won’t accept to be paid what he thinks he doesn’t deserve as he has ‘principles’
“It’s a very tough question to answer [why I’m clubless] it’s not a matter of being so and so. It’s just a matter of principles,” said Masango.
“You must have principles as a person. I have my own principles and if my expectations are not being met, I’d rather stay at home.
“The last time I had an offer, I won’t mention the club. But the person called me and offered me an amount that I can make even when I’m sitting on my couch at home. I can stay home and sleep the whole day and make that amount he was offering me.
“The offer was from a Premiership team. I won’t divulge much but it was an offer that I wouldn’t accept.”
Mandla Masango, who played a vital role when Amakhosi last won a trophy; the 2014/15 league title briefly explained why some PSL players retire poor.
In addition, he insisted that he is yet to retire from football and will only return to action only when a suitable offer presents itself.
In the past, the winger was linked with several clubs includingCape Town City, SuperSport United, and Sekhukhune United.
“You must have respect when you speak to people, you must respect their craft. I feel like some of the PSL clubs don’t respect the craft of the players,” he added.
“Find a rugby or cricket player and tell me if you’ll read somewhere that they are broke. That’s because their craft is taken seriously and they are respected.

He continued: “For now I will continue with my things. And if something that meets my expectations comes up then I will be up for it.
“Life is a matter of negotiations, I respect every individual whether or not they have money. But don’t come to me and disrespect me. Yes, I have nothing, but treat me with respect.”
