Khama Billiat looks set to leave Kaizer Chiefs for free as the deadline for the expiry of his contract fast approaches.
A club insider has revealed that Kaizer Chiefs are silent about the future of one of their highest-paid players. Khama Billiat’s contract expires this month end after an injury-hit five years with the Soweto giants.
KAIZER CHIEFS’ SILENCE
“The silence from Kaizer Chiefs suggests that the club may be resigned to Khama leaving for on free transfer. The contract expires in a few weeks, and I honestly do not see any late deal being reached to keep him longer than the end of June,” said the insider.
Speculations had been rife that the Amakhosi hierarchy were leaning more towards persuading the 32-year-old to agree to a salary cut as high as 50% to stay at Naturena.

“I have heard of that proposal, but I do not see Khama Billiat accepting such an offer when he has quite a few options. I know Young Africans from Tanzania have expressed interest in his services. They are not the only club that are watching the proceedings unfold around his contract,” said the source.
BILLIAT’S SPELL AT CHIEFS
Injuries have hampered Billiat’s five-year spell with the Glamour Boys, scoring just 18 goals in 86 appearances. The highly-rated Zimbabwean star endured his worst year in the PSL when he ended this season without a single goal after missing most of it through injury.
Long-serving Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper is another senior player who has reportedly been asked to take a pay cut to extend his stay at Naturena. Unlike Billiat, the source close to the club said Khune is likely to accept the deal at the club he has served with distinction since starting his successful career back in 1999.
